With each election, Americans go to the polls and make decisions that impact – for better or worse – the future of Freedom in America at the state and national levels.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 72 percent (142 million) of the eligible voting age citizen population (197 million) were registered to vote in 2004. This means that more than 55 million people were unregistered and therefore did not participate in the November 2004 elections.

Polling shows that there are approximately 80 million gun owners in the U.S. (A Gallup Poll conducted in Oct 2004, found that 38 percent of Americans say they have a gun in their home, representing approximately 80 million Americans.)  Assuming gun owners are registered to vote at the same rate as the population as a whole (72 percent), as many as 22 million gun owners may not have been registered to vote in the crucial 2008 elections.

In view of the foregoing, the National Rifle Association of America (NRA) has created a new affiliate, the NRA Freedom Action Foundation (NRA-FAF), which focuses on non-partisan voter registration and citizen education.  The NRA-FAF has been recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Donations are fully deductible.
