There can be little doubt that the great support of the American people for the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and pro-Second Amendment policies in the nation’s policymaking bodies could be made even greater with a more robust comprehensive voter registration program.  While the NRA is comprised of approximately 4 million dues paying members, surveys suggest that as many as 20 to 30 million people think of themselves as NRA members. A poll conducted by Gallup in 1993 found that 15 percent of respondents said they were NRA members. A post-2000 election survey by Zogby International found of people who voted in the 2000 election, 62.8 percent said they listened to the NRA “all of the time” or “most of the time” before casting their votes for one candidate or another.

The NRA-FAF is committed to building a comprehensive national voter registration program to register the millions of gun owners, hunters, and Second Amendment supporters nationwide who are not yet registered to vote.  Using offline and online micro-targeting, we will find these households on a nonpartisan basis and encourage them to register to vote.

Now, in 2009, the NRA Freedom Action Foundation is seeking a new approach to reach the younger generation in its new voter registration campaign.  The Foundation has created “Trigger the Vote,” a comprehensive voter registration campaign using both traditional outreach – TV, radio, direct mail – as well as new social media outlets.
